Survival Guide

72 Hours Straight of Gaming Goodness.

LANWAR is more than just a LAN party—it’s a legendary gaming experience where hundreds of gamers come together to compete, connect, and celebrate their love of gaming. Bring your rig, grab your controller, and get ready for the pure gaming insanity that has fueled LANWAR since 1998.

Our goal is to create a place where gamers come together, whether it’s competing for prizes, battling in the Game of the Hour (GOTH), or making friends who will last beyond the weekend.  No matter what kind of gamer you are, you’ll leave with new friends, wild stories, and a weekend you’ll never forget!

Non-Stop Gaming Action
  • Play your favorite games with hundreds of other gamers.
  • Try out popular steam games for free while at the event.
  • Join Game of the Hour (GOTH) matches for casual fun.
  • Compete in tournaments running all weekend.
True LAN Party Experience
  • Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) and setup your battle stations.
  • See insane gaming setups - from neon-lit rigs to extreme cooling builds.
  • Share tips, strategies, and game mods with fellow players.

What to Bring to LANWAR.

LANWAR is a Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) event, so you’ll need to pack everything necessary for an uninterrupted gaming experience. From your gaming rig to personal essentials, making sure you’re well-prepared will maximize your fun and minimize last-minute hassles. A good rule of thumb: if you need it to game at home, you’ll probably need it here!

In addition to your PC, don’t forget to bring network cables, a power strip, and any comfort items to make your LAN experience even better. Below is our full  checklist list of recommended must-haves.

Most Frequently Forgotten
  • Long network cable (25+ feet)
  • Power Strip
  • Power Cord
  • Mouse Pad
  • Mouse
  • Headset
Don't Bring
  • Speakers
  • Other devices that consume power
  • Alcohol
  • Coolers
  • Networking equipment

Sleeping & Hotels

We provide a dedicated sleeping hall for attendees who need to rest between gaming sessions. Space is limited, and you are allowed one twin mattress per person or a queen mattress for two people. Sleeping is only permitted in the designated sleeping hall—you cannot sleep in the BYOC hall or lobby.

For those who prefer a hotel stay, we are working with local hotels to offer discounted rates for LANWAR attendees. Be sure to check the Event Guide for booking details and availability as the event gets closer.

Food & Drinks

No need to leave the event to refuel—on-site concessions will be available, offering lunch, dinner, and a late-night pizza snack. Standard concessions like candy, drinks, and snacks will also be available at reasonable prices throughout the event. We accept cash and Venmo for all purchases. And, of course, we’ll have BAWLS and other energy drinks to keep you powered up all weekend long!

If you have specific dietary needs, you’re welcome to bring your own snacks. Just remember, no cooking equipment or coolers are allowed inside the venue.

Unload & Parking

When you arrive, you can pull up to the designated unloading zone to drop off your gear. Carts are provided to help transport your rig up the elevator to the event hall. Once you’ve unloaded, you must move your car immediately—there’s a 20-minute time limit in the unloading zone before your vehicle is at risk of being towed.

After unloading, you’ll need to park in the university parking garage or designated lots. Parking options vary and we recommend car pooling. Be sure to check the Accommodations page for detailed parking information, including rates and available lots. Plan ahead and allow extra time.

Wait.  I need a Survival Guide?

Yes. Yes, you do. LANWAR is not just a gaming event—it’s a full-blown, 72-hour, caffeine-fueled experience where preparation is key. Whether you're a first-time attendee or a seasoned LAN warrior, the LANWAR Survival Guide has everything you need to game smarter, survive longer, and avoid rookie mistakes.

Over the years, LANWAR has welcomed over 20,000 gamers and hosted countless tournaments, community events, and unforgettable late-night gaming marathons. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know—from what happens when you first walk in, to how to get the best seat and make the most of your time. Whether you're here to compete, meet friends, or just play games non-stop, this guide is your ultimate handbook for an epic LANWAR experience, so read up, gear up, and get ready for one of the most epic events of your life!

TOURNEYS

Our tournaments are designed for fun, giving attendees a chance to compete in a relaxed, friendly environment. While some tournament winners may receive sponsor-donated prizes, the focus is on casual gaming and having a great time, not high-stakes competition. Whether you’re a casual player or just trying a game for the first time, everyone is welcome!

Here are a few helpful tips.

  • Show up for tournaments & player check-ins on time.
  • Double-check the schedule one week before the event and again the day prior to stay up to date.
How do I sign up for a tourney?

You must first register for the event and pick your seat.  Then select the tournaments you want to sign up for from the list below.  Be sure to read the rules for each tourney!

Can I sign up for multiple tournaments?

Yes, but be aware that we can only fit so many tournaments during the event and sometimes tourneys can overlap.  If you make it deep into one tournament, you may not be available for the overlapping tourney. Staff will do its best to accommodate, but no promises 🙂

What is Player Check-in?

Many of the tournaments require players to check in at the lobby one hour before the start. This session covers the rules, any last-minute changes, and, in some cases, allows for late sign-ups.
